NONSENSE PRODUCTIONS
NONSENSE
PRODUCTIONS was born in 1994 with the goal of promoting and spreading the thousands of
cinematographic crazes of Gabriele Albanesi, a young roman
filmmaker who is possessed by raving hallucinations and an adrenalinic sense of
almightiness.
The young director, at the tender age of sixteen, gathers around him a small handful of
desperate people, who are ready to follow him wherever he goes, and with them he creates
his first short movie, THE LAST TAGLIATELLA
(1994), a first, primitive, and far from essential try, which nonetheless serves as a
foundation for all of his subsequent efforts.
Following THE LAST TAGLIATELLA are other short films inspired by Ferreri, AN ORDINARY PERSON (1995) and MERRY CHRISTMAS (1995), which, although they
represent a step forward from their prototype, are still rough amateur experiences which
have their only merit in constituting the training gym of the young and angry director,
who, having seen his films rejected at some festivals, continues with even more passion
and determination to film and experiment.
Fueled by his anger for the defeats he suffered, Gabriele Albanesi, at the age of
seventeen, puts together a 54-minute film on which he'll work on all summer, SPAGHETTI WITH TUNA (1995), which, in the
month of October is projected at Frascati's FARENIGHT, stirring up a hyperbolic and
unexpected public success: his name slowly starts to creep through the town streets.
In 1996 it's ORPO!'s turn, a surreal and grotesque
mid-length film with no actual plot that is once again projected at the FARENIGHT and at
the festival of Bellaria in a non-competitive section.
But only with THE SURREAL GLAND, filmed at
the age of eighteen, does the indomitable videomaker achieve results that are satisfactory
to him: he has subsequently declared that all of his previous work was just embarassing
apprentice exercize. And it is with this 36-minute film that the first recognitions
arrive: THE SURREAL GLAND is shown at the FARENIGHT, at the CINEMA TRASH FESTIVAL in
Turin, at ENZIMI 1997 in Rome, at OFF2-UNDERGROUND CINEMA FESTIVAL, at LA SAPIENZA
University in Rome, and at the AZZURRO SCIPIONI cinema in Rome, where it stays for a good
nine weeks.
After, Gabriele decides he has reached sufficient artistic maturation and is ready to
throw himself in a titanic and very ambitious enterprise, the realization of a
long-playing video: the title is THE
MAELSTROM OF ABSURDITY, and he thinks it will be the complete summit of all his
previous films and experiences. Gabriele began writing the script in February, 1997,
finishing it in July of the same year. The nerve-racking making of the MAELSTROM began
August 1997 to end in March 1998. That is the filming period. The movie, which is 90
minutes long, is still in the editing phase (for the first time in BETACAM), and its
realease has been scheduled, after countless delays and postponements, for March 1999:
exactly two years after its conception.
This site has been created to spread his name across the entire globe: whoever wishes to
contact him to see his work or simply to know more about him, may do so without fear or
worry.
