Story:

Mel Gibson plays the ambitious Australian journalist Guy Hamilton, who´s intent on making a name for himself in his new assignment in one of the world´s most volatile trouble spots. Sigourney Weaver plays the British Embassy attaché privy to sensitive information but due to imminent transfer.

Set against a violent back-drop in Sukarno´s Indonesia in 1965, The Year of Living Dangerously is a gripping mix of revolutionary war, explosive action and personal conflict.

The Year of Living Dangerously is an extraordinary movie. Visually it is overwhelmingly beautiful, especially the shots of the countryside of Indonesia. The entire cast is acting good, Linda Hunt even won an Oscar for her wonderful performance. In other reviews you read that Sigourney Weaver´s English accent is lousy, but I must note out that I´ve heard a lot worse. At least she´s trying to sound convincing.

The story is based on political events, but there is also enough room for a love story, which brings the movie in balance and makes it worthwile to watch. Without the love theme it would´ve been boring, although many disagree with that (probably the same ones who think that Sigourney Weaver´s accent sucks).

Don´t believe the negative reviews, this is absolutely a must-see movie!
