Birgitte S.C.'s opinion:

Usually I'm not a big fan of drama movies; I consider my own life dramatic enough :)  But being a die-hard Sigourney Weaver fan I bought the DVD (the movie was skipped in the cinemas in Holland, where I live) and watched the movie after weeks of postponing.

After reading the back of the DVD case what the movie was about I feared that I was about to see a depressing movie, but fortunately director Scott Elliot managed to make a good balance between dramatic and lighter scenes so that the movie doesn't become too sombre.

The story is very moving and the performance of the cast gave the movie a very convincing look. A big compliment for the young actors portraying the children of the Collins' and Goodwin family. It almost seemed as if they were a real family instead of a bunch of actors thrown together and pretend to be one happy family like you see in most movies.

Although A Map of the World would usually be a movie I would avoid, I urge everybody to give this realistic, not-so-depressing drama - that surprisingly didn't receive one single Oscar nomination - a chance. It's a really good film.
