It seems like
no matter where you go on this planet you run into apes!
If you happen to be about town and stumble upon an apes
display, please take a shot of it and send it in. I've always
got a camera with me for just such an occasion, but I can't
get to them all. The following shots were sent to me from
friends all over the country.

I actually got
this shot a few years back in Pasadena, California at a
Starcon SciFi Convention. There are a couple of cool things
about this photo. The first being the gentleman on the left
hand side of the photo. That is none other than Don Pedro
Coley, one of the mutant leaders from Beneath. He was the
nicest guy and seemed to be having a blast at this show.
He even made me pose with him for a picture that happened
to be in the newspaper the next day. Now everyone in Pasadena
thinks I'm a SciFi Nerd. Oh Well! The other cool thing about
this photo is the orangutan costume on the right. I'm not
100% sure, but I think that is the second/back-up jacket
for Honorius (James Daley) from the original Planet of the
Apes film. It's distinguishable by the leather on the sleeves.

You can find
this guy in the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada hidden
downstairs in the back. Not the best display I ever had
the chance to see. As a fan I picked it apart for various
reasons. The worst reason being that he was wearing his
bandoleer backwards. That's what happens when a non-fan
puts up the display. His face/head was very good and I would
of given it high regards if he weren't missing his front
tooth. If you are in Vegas, it's worth stopping by and taking
a look.

This picture
came to me from a friend back east. Back in the early 80's
his parents took him on a family vacation to Universal Studios
in California where he stumbled on their Planet of the Apes
display featuring Dr. Zaius. Although the face/head looks
nothing like Dr. Z, it's still very nice. The cool thing
about this picture is that the orangutan is actually wearing
the Dr. Zaius riding outfit From Beneath the Planet of the
Apes. Very cool!

In the Planet
Hollywood Florida. The Icarus spaceship hangs high in the
rafters so bring a telephoto lens if you want a good shot
of it..

This is by far
the best display I have ever seen! I ran into this display
at the 2003 San Diego Comic Con. This is the original Dr.
Zaius costume from Planet of the Apes. It was on display
courtesy of Profiles in History Auctions with a bunch of
other very cool SciFi goodies. This display sold shortly
after Comic Con for 46K!!! WOW!!! The display itself was
created by the geniuses at Apemania.com. I myself have had
the privilege of meeting them in person and can say that
not only are they the most talented bunch of guys I've ever
met, they're also the nicest! If you get the chance, stop
by their site and check out their reproductions. They are
as close to the real thing as you could ever want.

This photo was
shot by a friend of mine on vacation in Florida. The Urko
was shot at the end of the MGM studio tour. Again, for some
reason this display is missing his front tooth. The chimp
display photo was taken in one of the MGM studio stores.
The costume is original. The bad thing about this display
is that it had a plaque reading Zira from the Planet of
the Apes. Again, that's what happens when a non- fan puts
the display together.

If you live
on the east coast, specifically in the New York, Long Island
area, this is a definite stop. Every Halloween this display
along with tons of other very cool SciFi setups can be found
at Billy's Basement ( for directions go to billysbasement.com
) Billy is one of those cool collectors that once a year
sets up a display for all to enjoy.

This photo was
sent to me by a good friend of mine and fellow apes collector.
He's one of the many collectors out there that helped me
get the costumes together to be photographed for this site.
The costumes on these displays are all original and feature
heads created by the artisans at Apemania.com. I highly
recommend them to any one wanting to finish off an apes
display.
