More Info:
According to The Digital Bits and DVD Review, the Alien series is schelduled for a June 8 release.  ALIEN will be a 20th aniversary special edition (no word on extras) and ALIENS will be the director's cut.   It seems that FOX is already preparing a website for the series at www.aliensdvd.com. The Petition:
We, the undersigned, support the release of special edition/director's cuts of,, and in the DVD format.  We would prefer extras such as deleted scenes, directors' commentaries, trailers and teasers, and "Making Of" featurettes.
Each of the four ALIEN films have had scenes which were filmed but cut from the theatrical releases.  The laserdisc of has  deleted scenes at the end and also has restored footage.  FOX has also released a special edition director's cut of on laserdisc and on European VHS.   This version restored the drastic cuts made from the theatrical version and is about 17 minutes longer.  Now, people who attended a test screening of claim that they saw a version that was approximately 30 minutes longer than the current film (140 minutes versus 108).  These reports are supported by the fact that TV commercials and "Making Of" specials have shown footage and dialogue that is not in the current film.   Special Editions and Director's Cuts of movies are becoming increasingly accepted as the definitive version of a film.  In fact, the restored footage and supplementary information on the laserdisc of caused Entertainment Weekly to name it one of "The Hundred Best Laserdiscs" in their Guide to the Greatest Movies Ever Made.  Special editions are extremely popular among fans, film lovers and DVD owners.  Special edition DVDs such as Austin Powers are among the best selling discs.
DVD has many advantages over VHS and laserdisc, including the best quality picture and sound in a home video format.  DVDs support multiple language soundtracks which can be used for directors' commentaries. A single side of a DVD can be used to hold two versions of a film such as rated and unrated versions or the theatrical version and the directors cut.  Two sided DVDs allow the widescreen version of a film on one side and the pan-and-scan version on another.  DVDs can hold up to 4 hours of film on a single side with the Reverse-Spiral-Dual-Layer technology (RSDL).  This allows the full version of to fit on a single DVD side and still leave enough space for supplementary footage such as trailers, interviews, cast biographies and "Making Of" featurettes.  Warner is using this feature on their DVD release of Contact:Special Edition.  Most DVDs are released in 16 X 9 format which enhances the picture for Widescreen TVs and is the aspect ratio of HDTV.
Ridley Scott, James Cameron, David Fincher and Jean-Pierre Jeunet are all talented, visionary directors.  The fans of the ALIEN series want to see their films on DVD in the most complete version possible.

The Alien saga is one of the cinematic milestones of our country. With
the first movie, extraterestrials were instantly transformed from little
green men into viscious, calculating, deadly beings, and all of a
sudden, space wasn't so nice a place anymore.

IN addition, the director's cuts of the films should be produced. Cut
scenes should be reintroduced in their entirety, and if possible,
"making of" vignettes should be included along with separate musical
scores.
