Heaven

RECAP: Lucky and Liz had an honest talk about their feelings on getting more intimate, and decided they both want to wait and not rush into anything.
Lucky could feel the jolt of electricity that went through both Liz and him as their lips moved against each other in the seductive dance. It was as if he was using all the energy in him just to stay conscious, and not be consumed in the process. His one hand was in the smooth and enticing pool Liz's hair had made on the sand. He threaded his fingers through her hair, and traced her jaw line with the other hand. Liz felt the cool air on her lips as Lucky pulled away. She was about to protest when she felt Lucky's teeth nibbling lightly on her ear, so lightly, yet it made her blood rush through her veins like a river gone wild. She heard herself calling out Lucky's name without realizing it. It drove both of them crazy. Lucky slowly lifted his head and caught Liz's eyes with his own. Their eyes were smoking with desire. They knew they needed to stop before they had gone to a place beyond all reason. Lucky ran his thumb gently along side of Liz's cheek, and then rolled himself off Liz to lay beside her. He could hear Liz trying to steady her breath just as he was doing. They lay still, listening to the drumming of their heartbeats while the waves played their own music.
Lucky: This is going to be even more trickier than I thought.
Liz: I guess we can have fun, just shouldn't have too much of it, huh?
Lucky: Definitely not too much. I believe you might just kill me in the process!
They looked at each other and laughed. Lucky sat up and extended one hand to Liz. She took it, and the two of them stood up. The wind was getting very cold in the early evening. Lucky pulled Liz into an embrace and buried his face in her hair. His fingers were making circles on the small of her back while Liz rested her hands right below his shoulders that seemed to have gotten so broad all of a sudden. It felt so right. They thought. Being in each others arms was the place they had been searching for. The place where nothing could harm them, where they found peace, serenity, and a heart full of love. Nothing else had ever felt so right.
Liz raised her head that was comfortably rested on Lucky's chest. She rained a trail of kisses along Lucky's jaw line, and then his cheek, and back home to his lips. Just one feather light kiss. Lucky smiled.
Lucky: Ready to go home?
Liz: Yeah. You know what?
Lucky: What?
Liz: This is the first time in my life the phrase "going home" actually made sense. Just because you'll be there.
They smiled at each other once again, and walked off with Lucky's arm around Liz's shoulder, and hers around his waist.
Dinner that night was like a dream. Everyone was there. Sitting around that table. The smile on Laura's face was warm, and loving. She had her family together. She had Lucky doing the usual war of wisecracking with Luke. For a long time she didn't think she was ever going to see that happening again. She had Lulu babbling about the play date she had that afternoon. And Liz. She smiled affectionately to the girl that had completely stolen Lucky's heart, and then hers, Luke's and Lulu's. Liz had fit into this family so well it seemed as if she was here all her life. She was smart, loving, and not without her own share of stubbornness, and that feisty personality the Spencers had been known for. The knowing smile and the small secret gestures Liz and Lucky exchanged from time to time had not escaped Laura. It made her heart swell, and ache at the same time to know that Lucky had found the one that was made for him. She thought about everything she had gone through before she'd fell in love with Luke. She was glad that Lucky wouldn't have to search for as long as she did. But it also made her realize that now there was one more person that had the power to break Lucky's heart. She remembered all the turbulence she and Luke had had to go through after they fell in love, even after they were married. She glanced over to Lucky and Liz. They looked so comfortable, so in sync. They looked like they knew what the other person was thinking before they even talked to each other. It was true love all right. She sighed. Her younger son was growing so fast while she wasn't noticing. Liz heard the sigh that came from Laura, and looked over to her. Laura smiled at Liz.
Liz: Is there something wrong?
Laura: No, just something that I knew was coming but didn't prepare myself enough for.
Liz: What is it?
Laura: Lucky. He is growing up so fast right in front of me. He is no longer a little boy. I guess I just didn't realize that day was going to be here so soon.
Liz: My mom used to say the same thing. Sometimes she wanted us all to grow up and move out of the house already, sometimes she seemed like she wished we were still little babies so she could take care of everything.
Laura: I guess all mothers have those feelings from time to time. I'm certainly going to treasure Lulu's childhood more since she is going to be the last chance I have to baby anyone. Lucky stopped letting me do that a long time ago.
Liz: He still loves you a lot. More than anything in the world.
Laura: ( smiling) I know. He feels the same way about you too.
Liz: ( smiling) The feeling is mutual.
Laura put her hand on Liz's and smiled.
Laura: I know. You two have something some people spend their whole lives trying to find.
Liz looked over to Lucky, and smiled tenderly. Lucky and Luke finally noticed Liz and Laura's gaze.
Luke: All right, what are you two cooking over there?
Lucky: Are you talking about us behind our backs?
Liz: Didn't you feel your ears itch?
Laura and Liz shared a mischievous smile.
Luke: Let me tell you something, cowboy. Any time the women act like this, don't even ask them what they were talking about. They were either saying something bad about us which you wouldn't want to hear anyway, or they were saying something good about us which we'd have to live up to every minute of our lives if we hear it. So I say don't ask!
Laura: Luke, stop corrupting Lucky already. I'm sure Liz would appreciate that.
They all laughed, even Lulu, who didn't exactly understand what they were laughing about. Lucky and Liz insisted on cleaning the kitchen, so Laura and Luke could take Lulu for a walk before she needed to go to bed. The trivial task of collecting dishes from the table, rinsing them, and putting them in the dishwasher was made to seem as if it was the greatest thing to do in the world by the little brushes of the elbows, and the smiles and quick kisses exchanged in between. They sat down in the living room after the kitchen had looked spotless.
Lucky sat down, and put his arm on the back of the couch. Liz settled comfortably by him, and drew her legs up. Lucky's hand caressed her hair while Liz snuggled up with one hand on Lucky's chest. The crackling sound of the fire was the only noise in the room. They closed their eyes and enjoyed the close proximity of each other. There were definitely certain perks that came with living in the same house as the person you love did, they thought. They didn't have to worry about the time. They didn't have to worry that it was getting late and one of them would need to get home. Not that they ever really did anyway, Liz chuckled lightly at that thought. Lucky fluttered his eyelashes and smiled at Liz heavy-eyed.
Lucky: What's so funny?
Liz: I was just thinking about how you used to come up and knock on my window after you put on that good-bye show for gram's benefit. Now that we live in the same house, you won't have to do that any more.
Lucky: Missing having me come through your window, are we?
Liz: Yeah, you know it. I used to love hearing that familiar sound on my window. Even though you did it so often, my heart would still always jump at the sound of it. Knowing you were right outside of my window just to see me for another ten minutes made me smile.
Lucky: The power you have over me, that's what you like, huh? Maybe I should listen to my dad more often.
Liz: Lucky, surely you know when it comes to your mom, your dad's tough talk is just that----talk.
Lucky: Yeah, Spencer men have nothing on the Webber women. Do we?
Liz smiled and snuggled closer to Lucky. The door bell rang just as they got comfortable.
Lucky frowned.
Lucky: Did they forget their keys?
Liz: I'll get it.
Liz got up and went over to the front door. Lucky was quickly alarmed when he heard Liz's exclamation.
Liz: DAD!
