Jonathan Rhys Meyers

::see bottom of this page for a message from the webmistress!::

Jonathan Rhys-Meyers has entered the global film scene with a vengeance. His dramatic leap to recognition as a talented and well accomplished actor was not an easily won victory. Born in County Cork, Ireland on July 27, 1977, Johnny contended with a reportedly rough life in his teenage years. He has commented that acting and his motivation to accomplish something with his talent has ultimately saved his life. Johnny's break came via very small roles in A Man of No Importance and Michael Collins, along with a much more central one in The Disappearance of Finbar (När Finbar forsvänn) as the heroin Finbar Flynn. Made for television's The Maker and the screen production Telling Lies in America, with Kevin Bacon and Brad Renfro, were growing experiences for Johnny and certainly gained him a more wider exposure. He then began to catch the attention of filmmakers and the North American audiences. Subsequently Johnny made several films; the daring and acclaimed Velvet Goldmine, co-starring Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, Shallow Grave) and Toni Collette (of Muriel's Wedding fame); a supporting role in The Governess, starring lovely Irish actress Minnie Driver (Circle of Friends, Good Will Hunting); B. Monkey; The Loss of Sexual Innocence; Ang Lee's Ride with the Devil and Titus (known as Titus Andronicus in production). Johnny defies the typecasting that can plague other actors of his generation by taking on a diverse array of genres and media (indie, mainstream, Shakespearean etc.) in his career so far, recently appearing in the A&E presentation of The Magnificent Ambersons. Jonathan continues to surprise and excite his fans with a flourishing, evolving, and of course very unique style of acting.

::Well well well, I have not forgotten about my little page on Jonathan, and realize it's in serious need of modernization and updating, including stuff on his most recent projects ie. The Magnificent Ambersons and Bend It Like Beckham. Thanks so much for all your positive comments about the website. While it might not be as extensive as some of the other very impressive sites on Jonathan out there, I'm proud of its simplicity and have fun adding to it from time to time.

::Many of you ask why I include the question of whether you are vegetarian or not in my guestbook. This is because I'm vegetarian (vegan actually) and am interested to know how many of the fans that visit my pages are as well. This is not to imply Johnny is veg*n and I do respect freedom of choice, when it is an educated choice. For further info on Vegetarianism and Animal Rights visit the controversial yet effective #1 source PeTA.::
