Welcome to one of the first personal web pages dedicated to the best movie ever made, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. Released in the United States on 24 July 1998 audiences responded well to the movie and it was number one in the box office with $30 million. To this date it has made more then $200 million dollars. The first World War II feature film since A Bridge Too Far in 1977, Steven Spielberg, as director brings the audience the brutal reality that war is.
The first 30 minutes shows us the landing at Omaha Beach, 6 June 1944. It is this opening half hour that shows the audience that war is hell, and is in no way glamorous. The brutal landing shows hundreds of American soldiers landing in Normandy. German machine gunners atop a cliff rain bullets down upon American soldiers. The soldiers are gunned down, one loses an arm and searches for it and picks it up, another young kid, probably 18, lying there with his intestines hanging out of his abdomen and crying for his mom.
This movie from the very beginning is absolutely realistic and the only thing that veterans say isn't there is the smell. Nothing is held back especially the wounded and dying bodies. There is blood and gore, but that is war, and there is nothing pretty about war and nothing is held back in war and that is what Steven Speilberg is telling the world in his newest film, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.
