I Want To Know You

I want to know you.
To know you as my Friend –
the One who sticks closer even than a brother.
The true Friend who is there when others no longer care.
When I can’t find anyone to talk to,
When there’s no-one who understands,
I want to know you.
When I need a hug or a Kleenex,
I want to know you.
When I need a word of advice,
When I don’t know the way forward,
I want to know you.
When I am confused and unsure,
I want to know you.
When the loneliness pierces my consciousness
Like a knife through my heart,
I want to know you.
When the depression threatens to engulf me
like flames on an arid summer day,
I want to know you.
And yes, when joy and laughter are my portion,
Even then I want to know you.

I want to know you as the answer to every prayer.
The solution to every problem.
The healing balm to every ache.
I want to know you as the Lover of my Soul.
The Keeper of my heart.
The All-Sufficient One.
I want to know you as the one who shares my hurts and my hopes.
I want to know you as Jehovah Shammah –
the God who is ALWAYS there.
I want to know you.
