Much More on the LA Con and the 3rd Trailer!
As you've no doubt read from Piotr Rasputin's reports and news submissions, Sunday was an amazing day for X-fans and CD.com X-fans in particular. The con (specifically, probably the X-footage and Tyler Mane's appearance) attracted a much larger crowd than usual, according to con regulars like Rogue. The afternoon program began with Fox's promotion for Titan A.E., featuring the two trailers and an amaxing 2-3 minute action sequence that just blew me away. The X-Men portion of the proceedings began with Trailer 2 (the first 2-minute spot), then proceeded to the as-yet-unfinished Trailer 3. Here's a few notes that haven't been mentioned in the various description threads: The focus of the trailer is squarely on Logan, and then on Rogue, with the rest of the story somewhat more in the background. The opening sequences focus on Logan's arrival and introduction around the mansion (wearing a sweatshirt bearing the Xavier's School logo, no less And yes, the shirtless-running scene remains.) From what I believe is one of the train scenes, Logan tells Rogue "No one understands people like us." There is more dialogue in the Logan/Ororo scene: "Logan, stay and help us." which leads to the "There's a war coming..." part. On the subject of Storm, there's an amazing sequence showing her walking slowly through a building, her cape open behind her, as lighting and wind tear the place down all around her. A new snip of the SOL fight is featured, with what looks like a much better angle on Wolverine's catch-and-turn. There's also much more of the Woverine-Mystique fight shown, including a great casual snikt just before Wolverine throws down. Magneto is featured in a great huge rising shot up the SOL. A close-up of the tile-bridge effect, and more of his standoff w/ the local police-- he doesn't just take their guns, he makes them float just in front of them, then turn around to aim back at the cops. Okay, on to Tyler-- the Q&A session was spectacular. Tyler's obviously got some great mic skills from his days as a wrestler, and he really was able to get the crowd doing. He handled every question just right, from the fanboys who reminded him that Wolvie eventually wins (he menaced them quite effectively), and the kids who wanted to know what kind of "moves" Sabretooth will have, to the fans who wanted to know about makeup and research. One little boy asked to hear the Sabretooth voice, to which Tyler dropped a couple of octaves, grrr'ed to the kid a few lines, than let out a growl that sent him running. Tom DeSanto came out next, to our surprise. He looked every bit the fan he is, with a X-crew cap and well-worn Wolvie T-shirt. He was great, too, reminding everyone that it wasn't long ago, he was out in the con audiences wondering when they'd make a film the fans would want. After a few questions, our very own Rogue stepped up to let him and Tyler know of their honorary X-Stud status and gave the other CD'ers a chance to stand up and cheer. When he was told that we even had an out-of-state fan with us, he asked me to come to the stage SO HE COULD SHAKE MY HAND!! Once I did, I got the chance to thank him for making our movie. Tyler stuck around forever, signing an immense number of autographs, and Tom was there, too, discussing possible re-shoots and pickups on his cell phone and talking to fans as excitably as they were talking to him. According to the Fox exec that was there, and I believe Tom DeSanto as well, the new trailer will take at least another week, maybe two, before it hits the net and theaters. No word on just what it'll be attached to (though that timetable does allow for it to be w/ M:I-2).
