The Story
When Rachel runs into Central Perk, the local coffehouse that the gang hangs out at, she meets her old high school friend Monica. At that time, Monica had been sharing an apartment with Phoebe. Monica's brother Ross had also moved to New York City. Across from Monica and Phoebe lived Chandler, who happened to be looking for a roommate. That's when Joey came in.

Phew. So from there, the story takes off. There have been five seasons, and different amusing storylines to go along. Rachel and Ross developed a loving relationship (very sweet!) but eventually broke up when Ross became jealous over her new job and new co-worker. Joey's acting career took a leap when he finally got a temporary spot on the soap opera, Days of Our Lives; later on, he taught acting classes for an episode! Chandler began as a number cruncher in a multinational corporation, hated his job, and then got promoted. Monica's dream of being a chef lands in this hilarious waitressing job for a few episodes (imagine 50's diner, fake boobs, and roller skates!). Rachel waitressed at Central Perk for a few seasons, and finally moved up in her career toward fashion designer (her new job strained her relationship with Ross, remember?). Phoebe got to make a music video (didn't work out) and finally met her mom (who she thought had died!!). The best thing that happened was Chandler and Monica getting together during the end of this second to last season (and them also trying to keep it a secret) ...so that's all I can think of, and I'm sorry it's very disorganized, but if you REALLY want to know the details, take a look at the episode guides on some really good Friends sites (Links)!
