ROSWELL
Season 1, Episode 16: Sexual Healing
Afterwards, Liz tells Maria about her and Max in the backroom. Maria is surprised to hear that Liz had visions while making out with Max; the visions were of space and planets flying by. Liz asks Maria if she experienced any of those visions with Michael, but Maria avoids answering in a roundabout fashion.
The next day, the gang is at school. Maria tells Alex about the Liz-Max situation. "If they actually do it," Maria sums it up, "she'll probably explode." Alex replies, "...Or if they don't do it." Meanwhile, Max also asks Michael about the visions, and Michael replies, "Maxwell, let me assure you. You have not experienced anything I've not experienced many times..."
As Max walks into biology(?), he spots Liz. They smile and silently greet each other. Max sits down next to Liz (they're lab partners), and Liz purposely drops her pencil. Max bends down to get it, and sees Liz's dangling fingers. He touches them gently, and the camera pans up to Liz, who is obviously aroused by this. When she starts moaning, their teacher gives them both detention at the end of the day. Max passes over a note then; the note: "Eraser room, 6th period." Come 6th period, Max and Liz are busy in the eraser room. This time, Liz has even longer visions of flying towards the earth, and through the atmosphere. Suddenly, the door opens, and the principal stands there, glaring at the two of them.
As the two delinquints get caught, Maria and Michael test out a little experiment on their own. While kissing passionately, Maria tells Michael that she saw planets, while Michael tells her that he saw her as a young girl.
In the principal's office, Ms. Evans and Ms. Parker are apparently outraged and surprised that their children are involved in such acts of intimacy. Max and Liz don't know what to say; Liz tries to defend them, but Max is speechless. Liz's mother tells Liz to come straight home after school; Liz tells her she can't... she has detention.
When she sees Alex in the hall, Liz tries to explain to him what's going on, but realizes that she doesn't know quite herself. Alex walks off, confused, and finds Isabelle eating lunch. He "subtly" offers himself up for "human experimentation," the kind that Liz and Max are up to. Isabelle smiles, telling Alex, "Not gonna happen."
After school, Liz finds her way into the biology room. She sees a map of the solar system, and asks her teacher what it is of. He tells her that it is the Whirlwind Galaxy. When Liz continues to question him, he asks her what has caused her sudden interest in astronomy. Liz pauses, sees Max entering the room, then answers, "...It's just beautiful..." When the teacher leaves them with their detention assignments, Liz tells Max about the visions she's been having. "Max, this afternoon... I think I saw the crash."
While studying at home, Liz's mom interrupts. She begins to have the "sex conversation" with Liz, telling her that it's hard to watch her little girl grow up. Liz is obviously embarrassed by the whole situation, and tries to reassure Ms. Parker that she will be fine.
Later that day, Max tells Michael and Isabelle about the visions Liz has been having. While Isabelle stocks Michael's empty new apartment with groceries, Michael asks Max more about the situation. Max feels uncomfortable sharing all the moments; he admits that he has been seeing flashes from Liz as well. However, Max is not sure if the visions he's been seeing are real, or if they are a figment of his own imagination. Michael and Isabelle encourage Max to go forward in his and Liz's relationship, for the sake of their missing past, and find out if these visions they are both having are real. Their talk also encourages Michael to pursue his own experiments again, and he and Maria are making out again. This time, Maria confesses to Michael that she's been faking her visions. Suddenly, Michael is his cold self. "Why would you tell me that?" he asks quickly, then tells Maria that he was lying about his visions of her as well.
In the girls' locker room, Maria tells Liz about the "fake visions" ordeal. Liz asks her why she would fake it, and Maria replies, "Haven't you heard of the male ego? The question is why did I tell him that I faked it!" Before they go outside, Maria spots something on Liz's neck. When their coach beckons them to join the rest of the group, Maria tells Liz to take a look in the mirror first. Liz is left alone in the locker room again, but before she can get to a mirror, she finds Max at the door. He seems a bit nervous about being in the locker room, and tells Liz that he had to see if the visions he had been getting were real. When he spots the showers, he gulps, then tells Liz that he knows they must be, because he had never been in the girls' locker room, and he recognized the showers. Liz realizes then that Max had seen her fantasy! But Max assures her that it could easily have been his as well.
Just then, the coach storms in, yelling out Liz's name. Liz pulls Max towards the showers, and they hide in the stalls until the coach leaves. They both sigh in relief, then Max's eyes widen as he sees Liz's neck. He asks her check the mirror, too, and Liz is shocked at what she sees. A glowing hicky (what other show could have pulled this off??). Max uses his powers to erase it, and as he does so, Liz suddenly gets visions of soldiers hurriedly running around in the desert, accompanied by a continuous beeping sound.
As Michael and Isabelle discuss the visions at Michael's apartment, Max walks in. He tells them that Liz is on her way over. The other two get up to leave; Michael gives Max some "encouraging words" for the upcoming night. Funny scene: As the two turn to leave, they find Liz standing at the door. "How's it going?" they ask. "...Strange," Liz replies. Michael whispers to Max that he has some music cued up, if he needs it.
The two are then left alone together, and Max sees that Liz's hickey has grown a scab(?). He heals it again, and they both become confused. They are close by now, and Liz tells him to take his shirt off. They both know what's coming, yet they both speak in confused states. As they embrace each other, they aren't sure if they should be doing this, but it doesn't matter anyway, since their emotions were in control. As the two get to the couch, Maria bursts in.
Shocked, she stutters that she was looking for Michael. Next thing we know, Maria is driving Liz home, and giving her the mother-daughter speech. Apparently, her alien paranoia has appeared again, and she is worried that if Liz has sex with Max, she will regret it afterwards. Liz then tells Maria that she knows it wouldn't be a bad decision, since "it feel right, in a way that nothing has ever felt right before."
When Liz returns home (through her window), her mother is waiting for her. Ms. Parker yells at Liz, telling her that she doesn't trust her anymore; Liz only yells back, replying that she is not a little girl anymore.
"Liz!" Liz is startled by the whispered shout, as she writes in her journal, then realizes that it is coming from below. She looks over her balcony and smiles when she sees Max. She tells him about the vision of the soldiers, and a radio tower, and a beeping noise... Max realizes that he knows where the radio tower is, and the two journey into the night to try and find what is buried around it.
When Max and Liz reach the radio tower, they try to figure out where to start. They opt for the clue-searching, aka kissing and such. They spread out a blanket on the desert sand and begin kissing. "Are you sure?" Max asks, not entirely confident of what they are about to do. All of a sudden, Liz hears a beeping noise, and realizes that it's the same one as from her vision. They follow the noise and begin digging furiously. Suddenly, a beam of light flashes into the sky, and Max picks up round metallic object with a familiar symbol carved on it.
The next morning, a shadow appears over a sleeping Max and Liz. At the same time, news of their disappearance leads Isabelle to Alex's house. She agrees to let him kiss her, for it may give her a clue about their whereabouts. They kiss briefly, then Isabelle says nonchalantly, "...Nothing. Okay." She then turns to leave, smiling.
Sleep wearing off, the happy couple wake to see each other's faces. They smile, until Max realizes that a man watches them from a rock. He is the same man as from the ending of the last episode; he tells them that they are on private property. The couple scamper off with their belongings, and head back to town.
A knocking startles Michael from sleep. Maria appears at the door of his apartment, and she tells him that Max and Liz are found. He finally tells her that the flashes he had seen of her were real, and he describes the little Maria he saw. Maria smiles, then confides in him that she really didn't care about them. "I just wanted us to be close," she says finally. Michael (in a surprising act of un-Michaelness) puts his arm around her and draws her near him. He kisses her on the forehead, and holds her.
Parked outside the Crashdown, Max and Liz finish a last kiss. Liz does not experience any more visions, but she mentions that "a person could feel ...used" in her situation. Max replies with a serious face, "Is that what you think? ...Because you're not the only one who might feel used. I mean, some girls would give a lot to go flying through outer space." Liz begins to smile, rolling her eyes. Max continues, "Well, I'm sure it doesn't compare to other things, like watching Kyle barf after a beer bash..." (referring to one of the visions he saw). The two walk happily toward the Crashdown, and Max tells her that he doesn't think that was her destiny anyway. Liz asks him what her destiny is then; Max replies that he only knows the one he's hoping for. The two then hold hands as they walk into the Crashdown, where their parents await them.
