I'm sure many of you know that McFarlane Toys who
makes amazing action figures, recently released a line called "Movie Maniacs."
It contains characters from popular horror movies. Such as Jason
Voorhees(Friday the 13th series), Freddy Krueger(Nightmare on Elm Street
series, Eve & Patrick(Species: Horror???), and of course Leatherface.
They were released in December of '98. Two versions of the figures
were released; You had the R
rated versions, and a PG-13
version. Many people got confused, and asked what's the difference?
Well the
R
version is A.K.A. the bloody version.
The
PG-13
version
didn't have any blood. I believe the Jason figure has some slight
blood on the
PG-13
version.
A lot of people were upset because of this. Why? Because large
retail chains such as Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Target, and some other retail
chains felt that figures were too "graphic and violent" to display to young
children. But for us horror fans, it meant frustration. Because
of this the figures were extremely hard to find. Your best luck finding
one was comic shops, collectibles shops, and maybe a Sun coast or video
retailer here and there. Other than that, you were out of luck.
And to further the frustration about a
month after the figures release the R
rated
version stopped production. Which means, once there gone, there gone.
Now only sure ways of getting one is specially ordering them from Comic
Shops, and online Auctions like E-Bay and Yahoo!. Instead of spending
$10.00 which was the retail price for the figure, expect to spend around
$15.00-$40.00 for the
R
rated
figures. So many of us, who have small wallets couldn't afford to
get them, and had to settle for the non bloody versions. To
see a picture of the extremely rare bloody version the link is below.
If you see that figure anywhere, get it! Don't wait till the weekend,
or tomorrow, you must get it right then and there.
How to make your own bloody version! Like most, I have the non bloody version, and don't have the money right now to get the R rated one. So I decided why not make my own? Finding the PG-13 Leatherface is pretty easy, so if I mess up, I'll just get a new one. So I walked into the kitchen and looked for some food coloring. Found it, half a bottle of red food coloring. And went at it. Below is what you need to make your own.
(If you ruin your figure it is not my fault. Do it at your own caution, just be very careful and patient and it should turn out fine. If not, oh well)
Bottle of red food coloring
(you
will probably only end up using 12 drops)
Q-Tips (The food
coloring stained my fingers for three days. I never used a Q-Tip
so it might look weird when applying, if so just use your fingers anyway)
Wet paper towel and wet paper towel.
And that's all you should need. Applying is fairly easy just take your time and be patient.
Lightly squeeze a drop of food coloring onto the tip of your finger, or the Q-Tip and slightly dab on the shirt, arms, hand, and wherever else you want to apply it. In those areas you want the blood to look like its faded, or been on there a day or two. For the Apron squeeze some drops onto the Apron and turn the figure in different direction to make the blood leave a "trail." Then put food coloring on your finger or Q-tip and apply until it looks bloody enough for ya. Do this for the head, hammer, chainsaw, hand & bucket too if you want. Lay the accessories on a paper towel in front of a fan to dry quicker. If you don't have a fan let them set about 30 minutes. For the figure stand it up, or lay it down in front of a fan. Leave in front of fan for about 15-20 minutes. If you don't have a fan leave it alone for about an hour. When you come back to it, and it don't look good change it to the way you want it. Happy slaughtering!!!!
Also, you
can send in pictures of your own homemade bloody leatherfaces! I
want to create a gallery of them! Just e-mail the pics
to me and I will post em!
