Windows Registry Checker and Related Tools
Windows registry checker will automatically scan and fix minor registry problems. It will also, by default, maintain five backups of your registry for restoration so you can "turn back the clock" in case you have system problems.
The file SCANREG.ZIP contains a self-installing file called SCANREG.EXE. It will place the following files on your system:
C:\SCANAUTO.REG - this file is automatically run when the extraction is complete, so Registry checker may scan/backup the registry at each boot.
C:\WINDOWS\SCANREGW.EXE - the Windows Executable for Registry Checker.
C:\WINDOWS\SCANREG.INI - the configuration file for Windows Registry Checker.
C:\WINOWS\COMMAND\SCANREG.EXE - the DOS-mode version of Registry checker, useful for checking and restoring corrupt registry files. If you have problems, start your computer in Command Prompt Only, then type:
c:\windows\command\scanreg /fix
The only thing I did NOT include in this archive is a shortcut for Windows Registry Checker. To create one, do the following:
1. Right-click your START button. Choose OPEN.
2. Double-click PROGRAMS, then ACCESSORIES, then SYSTEM TOOLS
3. Right-click inside the system tools window, choose NEW > SHORTCUT.
4. In the COMMAND LINE box, type: C:\WINDOWS\SCANREGW.EXE
5. Click NEXT, then type Registry Checker. Click FINISH.
6. Close the System Tools, Accessories, and Programs windows.
7. Restart the computer if you wish.
