NOTE: I don't have a transcript for this show, but I remember watching it when it aired. After walking out and saying she was cold (just like the last time she was on), Natalie mostly talked about preparing for The Diary of Anne Frank on Broadway.

At first she seemed to be speaking rather quietly and carefully, maybe because of her vocal coaching. She said that her voice coach told her that she slurs her words. Letterman said that "she slurs her words" is hardly the first thing that came to mind when he thinks of her, and warned her about taking people like that too seriously.

In particular, Natalie said, she was told that she slurs the phrase "Lord and Taylor" (the New York department store). After she repeated "Lord and Taylor" several times to demonstrate, Dave answered, "What the heck, just go to Bloomingdale's."

She also talked about being tutored for her high school classes while rehearsing the play, and after griping about tutors, Dave reviewed some Japanese animal names with her. The name for "horse," it turns out, sounds like "Uma," which seemed to amuse the audience.

Overall this appearance was more subdued than Natalie's other times on Letterman, more like a relaxed chat between friends than some sort of comedy performance.
