95.8 Capital FM's Justin Kings talks to Natalie Portman
95.8 Capital FM (London, UK), July 19, 1999.

Key: JK: Justin Kings, 95.8 FM reporter NP: Natalie Portman

JK: This is Justin Kings in the thick of the summer sales, now you never know who's going to be behind you, in a queue; Natalie Portman may be the babe of Star Wars, but it has been Star Buys that have been on her mind while she has been in London. The eighteen year old who plays the Queen in Episode I made sure she found time in between plugging the movie to hit the high street, and let the Big Show see her bargains.

NP: I made some stops in Harvey Nicks.

JK: OK, so what's on the Natalie Portman shopping list--tell us what you've bought.

NP: OK, I got a dress, at Harvey Nicholls, by this designer called ### [who?--I can't hear it!] or something, really good, it was like ripped and had make-up all over it so I got it for seventy pounds, plus on top of sale week it was great, it was so fun. And, lots of good make up and stuff going on.

JK: A lot of people listening would think "Oh, Natalie Portman, she's in the Star Wars movie, she doesn't bargain hunt". Were you really excited about your bargain there?

NP: However much money you get and however many clothes people will throw at you, I think it's always fun to go shopping, and its hard when people just give you stuff because you're not choosing what you want, you know? So it's fun to go out and, kind of, discover things, and everyone loves a bargain!

JK: Now is this right, you've signed up for the next two films?

NP: Yeah, I'm gonna be appearing in Episodes II and III.

JK: Now is that a bit scary, knowing that your face is going to be not only on cinema doors but on pizza place doors, and everywhere for the next, like, ten years?

NP: Yeah, well, it's a little obscene actually, how huge the hype has been, and the publicity and everything. It's kind of funny too, in the United States I was on like Kentucky Fried Chicken boxes or something and I'm a vegetarian and I was groaning, I was like "I can't believe this!" This is, you know, irony.

JK: The next few years for you, is it purely Star Wars, or are you going to have time to do other stuff as well?

NP: No, um, I start college in the fall. My most recent thing is to study International Relations, but you know I change my mind every week and I'll probably kick myself for saying this

JK: Well thanks for talking to us, it's been a pleasure.

NP: Ok, thanks.
