Hi, I'm guitalife. John McLaughlin's ~BIRDS OF FIRE~: Tablature
Welcome to guitalife's Web page. As a guitarist, and amateur transcriber I offer some Tabs with a direction on the time value of the notes. As a longtime fan of Guitarist John McLaughlin I offer some subjective TABS of his music

Chords and Arpeggios and for comments on related scales.
Suggested Crosspicking Patterns; detailed:
the crosspicked arpeggio opening on, Guitar, is not for the feint of art.
~BIRDS OF FIRE~ a daring clash of Blues simplicity and elusive harmonic complexity,
mostly in 18/8, presents as an interesting contrast to Miles Davis'
classic modal tune ~SO WHAT~. ~SO WHAT~ ,roughly, uses a Bassline (..$..) to enhance
(*) the tonal centers of block voicing of largely quartal chords in an [AABA] form:
~~SO WHAT~~
{........$..............}{E Minor7 Sus11/D (*) ..DMin Sus11/D __}2x
{...$ semitone higher...}{F Minor7 Sus 11/Eb...EbMin7 Sus11/Eb}
{........$..............}{E Minor7 Sus11/D (*) ..DMin Sus11/D __}
Right off the top: Section [A] ~BIRDS OF FIRE~:,
the title track of THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA's second album.
John McLaughlin goes two-chord arpeggio-vamp on the matter, whole step apart.
Guitar plays two lone distinct soprano range 'E' "blues" licks. Then, it's a
tandem with violin, which has a range (G_D_A_E) up from the guitar's
pitch of the open 'G' (third) string.
The Violin and Bass anchor germane (Root_7th_Perfect 5th) ostinatos,
their P__5ths otherwise dissonant to the melody's 'E' pitches, onto
both Ab and Bb Altered chords in the tapestry,
and Keyboard enters, it's ever-fluid arpeggios matching the guitar intro.
Wicked triplets in the [D] section intensifies Section [D].
First, do no Enharmonic, but guit' on with it;
whether you call this G# or Ab 7Alt, and this A#, or Bb Alt7!
