Unless you're a Scientologist (the film is based on a book by its' founder, L. Ron Hubbard,) there's absolutely no reason to see this film...it's really dreadful. However, as a movie buff, you could use it as an educational tool, as it illustrates everything bad about mindless action films today. John Travolta, in what may be one of the worst performances ever put on film, may have just ended his career with THIS one. Summarizing the plot is futile...just stay home! |

Well, here is the first pile of doggy doo doo of the summer. Poor Barry Pepper; I liked him so much in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN and really wanted to like him in this, his first opportunity in a lead role, but he was set up to fail. This movie is really just not good. One really should question John Travolta's persistence in trying to get this film made. By the way, he's really bad, too. According to the advertisements, the novel that the movie is based on is supposed to be one of the best-selling sci-fi novels of all time. If its as stupid as the movie and steals as much from other sources (STAR WARS, THE MATRIX, a ton from Star Trek, etc.), then I understand why sci-fi always seems to have such a bad rap. There really isn't any point in going to see this one. |
