CHICKEN RUN

2000

From the creators of Wallace & Gromit, CHICKEN RUN is a story about a group of chickens trying to escape the egg farm where they are held captive. Like Wallace and Gromit, this film is not a cartoon, but claymation. While some may think it a children's movie, many of the jokes will fly over children's heads and while mostly just silly, there are a few tense moments, like when one low-producing chicken meets the sharp end of an ax. Mel Gibson does a nice job as the voice of American circus rooster whom the hens put all their hopes of escape with (some of the British cracks on Americans are pretty funny "...over paid, over sexed..."). Overall, this is a sweet and charming light comedy that adults and children should both be able to enjoy.
