DEEP BLUE SEA |
1999 |
A trio of genetically-altered sharks wreak havoc on an underwater science lab in this absurd yet exciting film. The acting is poor, especially Samuel Jackson who is completely unbelieveable as the rich donor who has supposedly put up $200 million for the research facility but is seeing it for the first time two days before he is going to shut it down. The premise of the story is just stupid, the characters are stereotypical and the plot is almost completely predictable. BUT, you don't go see a movie about a killer shark because you think it may be a candidate for this year's Oscars. If you like this particular genre and have the ability to completely shut your brain off and just enjoy it for the fun and rediculousness of it all, its worth seeing. |

Although there are some elements of fun and excitement in this ridiculous film, stay home and rent "Alien" and "Jaws" instead. These two classics of the genre, are the intelligent parents of this predictably stupid movie. |
