EYES WIDE SHUT

1999

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman may just have ended their careers with this one, their third movie together. When Kidman tells Cruise, her husband in the movie, of her fantasies about another man, Cruise goes out and begins a soul-searching journey filled with confusion, sexual exploitation and sheer stupidity. In the beginning, its easy to be fooled into thinking that you are getting character development and that a plot is beginning to form. But it never really does. If you think that there is an underlying story or even a moral here, you are mistaken. Filled with random occurrences that never really fit together to make any sense, this movie will bore you for a full two and a half hours. And contrary to what you may have already heard, this movie is not sexy or shocking... in fact, its just dumb. I guarantee you won't see anything here you haven't seen before.

Stanley Kubrick didn€t die of a heart attack; he killed himself after he saw the final rushes of this bore of a film. Badly written, badly acted(this should end Tom Cruise€s career!) and, surprisingly, badly directed, this film was one too many for the genius of Stanley Kubrick. He must have lost it just BEFORE the film was made! Everyone speaks in tongues, and all we get is an endless series of vignettes separated by the largest number of Christmas trees ever put on film!!! Stay home and rent "2001:A Space Odyssey," "The Shining," or "Dr. Strangelove."
