FIGHT CLUB |
1999 |
Whatever the opposite of what a "chick flick" is, this is it! There's so much testosterone flowing around this film that my penis grew an inch while watching it. It's also one of the most brutally violent films that I've seen in years. If you don't want to see blood spurting out of every frame as men beat up on each other, then stay away. If you can handle the blood, then you'll be "rewarded" with a brilliantly written, well-directed and well-acted(from Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter) film. (Brad Pitt once again plays Brad Pitt.) The plot concerns a psychopath who starts a fight club as a thinly disguised cover for training vandals/terrorists. I won't give away any more of the plot, because the film contains a "Sixth Sense" kind of surprise in it. However, when the surprise is revealed, the film loses all of its' momentum, and it just plods along for the last half hour, becoming a run-of-the-mill action/arcade game film. |

What a rush! Edward Norton is an insomniac who is addicted to support groups and wants to change his life. When his condo explodes leaving him homeless, he moves in with new found friend, Tyler Derby (Brad Pitt). Tyler has some very different, very revolutionary thoughts on life and the two begin Fight Club. Fight Club starts out as men meeting every Saturday night to pummel each other, but quickly evolves into something much scarier. Everything about this movie... the acting, the style, the story... is great until the last half hour or so. At that point, the story becomes just a little too much to swallow and the whole thing runs out of gas. But, its worth seeing this one just for the first two hours. |
