FOR LOVE OF THE GAME

1999

In the old days, Costner + baseball = box office hit. Not anymore. In FOR LOVE OF THE GAME, we see Costner as an aging pitcher for the Detroit Tigers pitching what may be his last game as a Tiger in Yankee Stadium. During the game Costner reflects on his life over the past 5 years and his relationship with girlfriend Kelly Preston. The game itself is somewhat interesting, although they just did not get the look and feel of the game and the players right. Everyone looks awkward. And the main focus of the game, the love story, really is not that good. The ending scene in the airport is laughable. I did, however, really like the overall idea even though some of the details could use a re-write.
