HIGH FIDELITY |

What could have been just another movie about a love affair turned sour, is instead this wonderfully quirky film, filled with original beautifully-drawn characters, lively settings, and a miracle of a screenplay that holds a very accurate mirror up to life, in sometimes funny, and sometimes sad ways. The actors truly get under the skin of their characters forming a perfect ensemble(John Cusack, Joan Cusack, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tim Robbins, John Black, etc.) Setting most of the action in a record store that sells vintage vinyl records gives the music director a chance to bring out some of the best songs of the '60's, '70's and '80's. I loved them and miss them. Watch John Cusack transform himself from a pathetic fool, into a sympathetic softy, then back to an ass----, then back to a real man. It's a terrific performance. Everyone knows this guy! |

When I first saw the preview for this movie, I thought it looked completely awful - three guys working in a second-hand music store. But its really not like that at all. Its actually a very funny, sensitive and intelligent look at dating and relationships through the eyes of a guy. And I think that there is so much in this movie that everyone can relate to. John Cusack plays the lead role to perfection (although I'm sure that it wouldn't be a stretch for most men) and he gets good support from a lot of faces you'll recognize but not be able to name (except Catherine Zeta Jones, of course). Go see this one- it'll give you a lot to think about and can probably act as an alternative to reading "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus." |
