ISN'T SHE GREAT |
2000 |
This is the supposed story of Jacqueline Susann, the outrageously campy 50's and 60's "author" of such shocking-for-their-time books as Valley of the Dolls, The Love Machine, and Once Is Not Enough. Written by Paul Rudnick, and starring five wonderful comic actors(Nathan Lane, Bette Midler, David Hyde Pierce, John Cleese and Stockard Channing,) this film should have been either hilarious, or moving(Susann's private life was filled with tragedy which she kept secret from her public.) However, it's neither...it's just stupid. We're left sitting there waiting for one of the actors to say or do something funny. Unfortunately these scenes are few and far between, and the film sinks under it's own staggering weight. |
