Three unlikely people(a fisherman, a club singer , and her daughter (all losers, incidentally,) come together, and where sparks should fly -they don't! Instead, what we get is a conflict between the demands of tourism in Alaska and director John Sayles' ecological rhetoric, in the first two "acts," and Swiss Family Robinson in the melodramatic third! In the end, what we also get is the crummiest, most unsatisfying ending that I can remember in a film in years;even O.Henry wouldn't have stooped THIS low! |
