OSMOSIS JONES

2001

The Farrelly brothers have targeted our children! Should we be concerned? The answer is a resounding "No!" The guys who brought us some of the raunchiest, most disgusting comedies of the last few years now give us probably one of the cleverest and most entertaining movies of the summer... and its probably the best film for kids in years. When an evil virus gets into the body of fat and disgusting Frank, an outcast white blood cell cop and an everyday cold medication take on mucus flows and gangster germs all while staying hot on the virus' trail. Frank's daughter lectures him continuously on maintaining a healthier lifestyle while inside Frank an impending mayoral election has incumbent mayor Phlemming going up against challenger Tom Colonic. And while the "internal" story is animated, its still going to make you think twice about skipping your veggies and having that last piece of greasy 3-day-old pizza. It still has the high gross-out factor typical of the Farrellys. Chris Rock, David Hyde Pierce, Laurence Fishborne, Bill Shatner and Ron Howard round out the voice talent with Bill Murray as Frank. Everyone is terrific. If you enjoy originality and intelligence, don't let the fact that this appears to be a "kid's movie" scare you away.
