PLUNKETT AND MACLEANE |
1999 |
I had heard that this movie was an hilarious spoof of the Errol Flynn swashbucklers of the '40s and '50s; I was misinformed! It's neither hilarious, nor a spoof. What it is in fact is a very stylish, sometimes clever, but ultimately very boring tale of two highwaymen who rob the aristocracy in 18th century London. Who cares! The costumes, make-up and sets do all the acting, stealing the spotlight from usually-competent actors such as Robert Carlyle, Michael Gambon, Johnny Lee Miller and Liv Tyler. If you find yourself stuck in there, listen to the very interesting musical score...it sounds like Pink Martini. |
