REQUIEM FOR A DREAM |
2000 |
Some people never learn. I hated Darren Aronofsky's first film, "pi," so why would I waste my time seeing this, his second one? Maybe it's because it had a big budget, the blessing of the Festival, and two good stars, Ellen Burstyn and Jared Leto. Ellen Burstyn was there to make some charming comments before the film as was Aronofsky. But then the lights dimmed, and on came one of the sickest, most depressing, and disgusting films that I've ever seen. It told the story of four drug addicts in Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. It was poorly written, badly directed, and filmed like a bad movie-video. The acting was brilliant. I hope that poor Ellen Burstyn gets some sort of nomination just to compensate for the humiliation of being in this piece of garbage! Aronofsky, a Harvard graduate, should be ashamed of himself. |
