ROCK STAR |
2001 |
The lead singer of a tribute band finds himself replacing the very idol he has obsessed over for years, only to find that in the end true happiness comes from being yourself. Its a nice message for kids and apparently this story is loosely based upon actual events that happened in the 80's with the rock band Judas Priest. If you're a fan of the tight leather pants, big hair and makeup-laden rock bands like Poison, Cinderella and Kiss, chances are you'll enjoy this film with all of its hard-rocking tunes and a few classics snuck in there. Wahlberg gives a strong performance as Chris/Izzy, the boy whose dream comes true, but most impressive is the nice job he does lipsyncing all the music. Jennifer Aniston as Wahlberg's girlfriend has not yet found a role that she can't make unnoticeable and uninspiring. The film is somewhat interesting in that it tries to give you a "backstage at a rock concert" kind of feel, but I felt like it fell short on the believability scale in the end. Probably something to wait for on cable. |
