SNATCH |
2001 |
After what I would consider a disappointing 2000, 2001 starts off with a bang. Director and Madonna boy toy Guy Ritchie gives us Pulp Fiction on crack. Brad Pitt, Benecio Del Toro, Dennis Farnia and a host of others star in this film about jewel thieves, boxers, mobsters, thugs and a squeaky dog that all get mixed in a diamond heist. It's fast, furious, funny, and quite violent. I cannot remember the last movie I saw that used the "F" word this much. Ritchie goes with an MTV style with a gritty look and lots of sharp editing that helps keep the pace of the film going strong. There is nothing bad I can say- I loved it! |

If you enjoyed Guy Ritchie's first film, "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," then you'll certainly enjoy this one.....it's the same film! However, "Snatch" is funnier; the plot, confusing as it is, is nevertheless much clearer than the first film; the strange dialects are easier to understand; having Brad Pitt in the film as the mumbling gypsy was a definite asset; the squeaking dog is funnier than the dog in "There's Something About Mary;" the characters, and they ARE characters, are better defined; even the bloody, violent scenes are more tolerable. This film is not for everyone, but if you enjoy the genre...goofy, mobster, heist-film...then you'll surely enjoy "Snatch." |
