SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER & UNCUT |
1999 |
First, let me begin by saying that I am not a fan of the South Park television show. I've always found it to be simply trashy and vulgar with little to offer. The movie ends up being ten times as trashy and vulgar as any show with one exception: there are very serious issues being addressed. When a movie by two Canadian actors turns the children of South Park into "potty mouths," the mothers band together to wage war on Canada. The main theme of the film? -that the Motion Picture Association of America is more lenient on excessively violent films than on films with excessive vulgarity. This intelligent and satirical comedy is continuous laughs throughout, but be sure not to miss the important commentary that is being made on today's society. |

To my surprise, unlike "Beavis and Butthead" and the films of Adam Sandler, this film is not aimed at your typical case of young male with arrested development. It's a very funny Candide-like satire of contemporary society (all right it s NOT Candide, but it IS very funny). The outrageous, over-the-top,"poddy mouth" language grows out of a very logical premise in the story line, and develops accordingly. Because of this, rather than being simply obnoxious and disgusting, it€s hilarious. The characters are sweet and gentle, even Satan and Saddam Hussein(in the most hilarious on-screen pairing of the year!) In addition, it IS a musical, and the songs are very Broadway-show-tune hummable. |
