It sure seems like a good time for a film to come out which explores the politics and techniques of the CIA's global operations doesn't it? Brad Pitt is a CIA operative who is captured by the Chinese when he goes rogue and attempts to break an asset out of a Chinese prison. Robert Redford is Pitt's mentor who relives the major defining events of Pitt's career with the CIA, all the while trying to work out a way to save him. The film provides a gritty, no nonsense look at the world the two men have been living in over the past 15 years- a world in which no one can be trusted, relationships are developed only for the information that they can provide and anyone at anytime can be sacrificed for the greater good. Redford and Pitt deliver great performances and I enjoyed the interactions between them. I also enjoyed the fast-paced, high-tech look of the film. For those of you suffering from an overdose of Harry Potter, this is a great adult alternative. |
