THE MUSE

1999

The always enjoyable Albert Brooks, is the writer, director, and star of this very funny slap-in-the-face to the movie industry. His fellow directors must really like and respect him, because he's managed to convince three of them...Rob Reiner, Jim Cameron, and a hilarious Martin Scorcese...to poke fun of themselves in juicy cameos. But the comic star of the film is Sharon Stone, whose surprising performance puts her up there in the very small pantheon of "beautiful women who can make us laugh"...women like Carole Lombard, Kay Kendall, Lucille Ball, and Goldie Hawn. Not such bad company! Jeff Bridges, Andie MacDowell and Mark Feurstein are also quite good in their roles of friend, wife, and idiot-boss, respectively. Listen to the background music; it's an original score by Elton John.
