THE ROAD TO EL DORADO

2000

The clue to this movie's intent is in the title. It's an attempt to recreate the pattern of the five Bing Crosby-Bob Hope "Road" movies of the 1940's(e.g., "The Road to Zanizibar," "The Road to Rio," "The Road to Morocco," etc.) The ingredients in those films were: two buddies in an exotic locale, a beautiful, sexy "dame," good songs, and a silly plot. We get all of those here, and in addition, there is some very artistic animation. The voices of Kevin Kline, Rosie Perez, Kenneth Brannagh, Armando Assante, and Edward James Olmos suit the individuals that they portray. Yes, EVEN ROSIE PEREZ! The kids will love it, and if you go in the spirit in which it was intended, you won't be disappointed either. In any case, it's better than "Pocohontas!"
