THE STRAIGHT STORY |
1999 |
THE STRAIGHT STORY is the true story of Alvin Straight, a man who traveled 350 miles to visit his brother after his brother has a stroke. So what? Well, Alvin is 73 years old and he makes the trip on his riding lawnmower. Beautifully directed by David Lynch, the film seemed to me to be almost a sonnet to family, to growing old and to the farmlands of the midwest. Along his trip, we learn about Alvin's life- his beliefs, his regrets, his wisdom and his yearning to feel young again. Its a film that moves at a riding lawnmower's pace, but its well acted and deeply emotional. If you're in the mood to ponder life, you should enjoy this one. |
