LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER |
2001 |
A film like this forces me to revisit the way a film should be rated. In particular, just how much of the director's intent should be factored into the rating? For example, if a film that was supposed to be a drama ends up being a terrific comedy, do you whack it because of that? Getting to the point, it would be difficult to argue that the intent of this film was more than merely putting Angelina Jolie in tight pants, tight shirts and having her jumping and running and shooting things. Given the success of the Tomb Raider series of video games, filmmakers knew that they had a gimme with the millions of male fans of the busty heroin, Lara Croft. Much like the video games, the film's plot has Lara spanning the globe to recover mysterious artifacts with magical powers before they end up in the hands of evil. So, does it work? Yeah, it works, but that doesn't make it any less stupid and there is a lot less action than you'd expect. Its actually quite boring. To hell with intent. This movie just stunk. |
