| onight, 9/8/99, I found myself in the same room as this amazing man. Most of the time he was about 12 feet away. Once he came by, on his way back from hugging some lucky person. He passed so close to me, and touched my mother's hand. hy my mom's and not mine? I was too in awe. |
ome rather unpleasant events brought me from Northern CA (where I live) to Southern (where I used to live.) I R.S.V.Pd to the confirmation email I recieved after requesting a ticket to the screening, and eagerly awaited the arrival of Wednesday, 9/8.
hen it finally came, I was a little saddened because I could find no one to go with me. My best friend had to work. My mother had to have dental surgery. The list went on and on. Luckily, Mom's surgery got put off and she decided to accompany me. We left our house at 2pm, using terrific directions I found using the Yahoo Online Driving Instructions service. We got to Westwood at 3:30, half an hour before the film was scheduled to start. It took us the half hour to find a parking spot. The theatre was packed. Both of us have difficulty sitting too close to a movie screen (makes us sick) but the only seats we could find were to the side, about five rows from the screen. Yikes! However, due to the angle of both the seats and the screen, we had no trouble seeing at all.
nyway, I will try to make a long story short (or less long, more appropriately) and say that while I still adore Kevin Spacey and it was he who brought me to the theatre, it was Wes Bentley that kept me enthralled.
he film has many standout characters; everybody in it was excellent, but there was something in Wes' character and performance that touched me. I don't want to go into a great amount of detail for those of you who have yet to see the movie, but suffice it to say that I personally connected with the character of Ricky on many levels.
lso, I found myself wondering, "Who is this guy? Why haven't I seen him in anything else? He's great!" That final comment is actually somewhat of an understatement. If you've seen the film, you know what I mean. After the film, during the question and answer period, someone asked Wes to hug their friend. Wes smiled and ran up the aisle. On his way back to his castmates, he passed by us. My mom called, "Wes! Wes!" He paused and looked at us. Mom stuck out her hand, intending to shake hands with Wes. He smiled again, reached out and squeezed her hand. She about fainted. =-)
hen we got home, I did a basic net search to learn more about this awesome guy. Unfortunately, I couldn't find much at all! Once the film is released, I know there will be tons fof people who want to learn more about Wes, so I decided to compile all the stuff that I could find here, to make it more convenient for you, the burgeoning Wes fanatic, to find everything you need in one place. I hope you enjoy!
