This page will give those new people to Scooby Doo a short description of each of the unique characters.

SCRAPPY-DOO: Scooby's plucky and misunderstood nephew. His mother is Ruby Doo. Scrappy was born at a hospital called St. Bernard's, and immediately expressed an interest in joining up with Scooby and Shaggy. He would get his wish, reuniting with his uncle at a train station. Scrappy enjoyed helping all of the original gang, but also enjoyed wandering about with just Scooby and Shaggy. Scrappy is fearless. He likes to believe Uncle Scooby is, too. Scrappy also spends some time with another uncle, Yabba-Doo. Scrappy is loyal-if he is fond of you, he will overlook all your faults. Favorite words include "puppy power", "neat-o", "I'll splat 'em", and "Let me at 'em!"

SCOOBY-DOO: A Great Dane with a great appetite for food. What type of food? Just about anything edible will do, one exception being creamed broccoli. Scooby Snax are especially appreciated, and can be used to bribe him. Scooby is a loyal friend, but timid about creepy situations. He'd much rather be eating than running for his life. He likes to end almost every adventure by exclaiming with gusto, "Scooby-Dooby-Doo!"

SHAGGY: His real name is said to be Norville Rogers. I don't know he doesn't look like a Norville. And is he a beatnik, a hippie, or pre-grunge grunge? Shaggy is Scooby's best friend, and shares his love of food and aversion to spooky scenes. Shaggy has been known to overcome his fear if it's Scooby that's in trouble, and Scooby does the same for him. Is Shaggy really so cowardly-or is he just practical? Perhaps it's Fred and Velma who are being reckless! Shaggy is known to frequently cry out, "Zoinks!", or perhaps, "Let's get out of here, Scoob!"

DAPHNE: Daphne Blake started life out as a spoiled brat, but somewhere along the path of growing up, she became more sweet than snooty. Occasionally she still fusses about her hair, but that's all. You wouldn't even know she's an heiress because she puts on no airs. She also outgrew a reputation for being "danger-prone". When the gang broke up, Daphne was separated from Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy for a short time. Later, after she became a journalist, she rejoined them and took over leadership of the gang. Her favorite exclamation is "Jeepers!"

VELMA: Velma Dinkley is the brainiest of the gang. Like many smart people, she needs glasses, which she sometimes loses at inconvenient times. If she minds being overshadowed by the more glamourous Daphne, she doesn't show it. She is relentless when investigating a case. Her favorite expressions are "Jinkies!" and "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

FRED: What can you say about Fred Jones? When they were passing out personalities to the Scooby gang, he showed up late. As a kid, he jumped to goofy conclusions, but now older, he's just pretty mild-mannered with no particular quirks. He's the leader of the gang, and the smartest after Velma. He seems to like splitting up with both the girls, leaving Shaggy only in the company of the dogs.

FLIM-FLAM: An streetwise urchin from the Himalayas, Flim-Flam is in the grand tradition of characters like Short Round from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. He's a bit of a con artist, but a helpful ally. His best friend is Scrappy; his mentor is Vincent Van Ghoul. He appears only in the series The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.

VINCENT VAN GHOUL: Vincent Van Ghoul is a mysterious and somewhat intimidating warlock. He orders Scooby and the gang to round up the thirteen ghosts they released, but he helps them along the way, often communicating with them through a crystal ball. You never quite know what this guy is thinking, but he's a class act. (He appears only in The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.)

BOGEL AND WEERD: Two bumbling ghosts who are desperate to raise their social status in the spirit world. They ally themselves with many of the escaped 13 ghosts of The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.

YABBA-DOO AND DEPUTY DUSTY DEE: Yabba is another of Scrappy's uncles, and he is genuinely brave. Spicy southwestern snacks help him to think. Deputy Dusty Dee is his human friend, a cowardly but cute officer of the law. They appear in certain episodes of Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo, which originally aired as episodes of The Scooby and Scrappy-Doo (and Yabba-Doo) Puppy Hour.
