Chapter 9 "Good morning Mr. Walker! How's Evelyn and the kids?" Jack brightly asked Mr. Walker, the milkman. Mr. Walker smiled warmly at Jack. Out of all the people that he had ever met in the 37 years of working as the local milkman, Jack had to be one of the friendliest, especially in a wealthy area like this where even the servants refrained from talking to him. "Hello Jack! Just fine thank you. Out for a morning stroll I see." "Actually, I was just on my way to visit a friend." Mr. Walker looked worried. "Well Jack, what are ya standin' around talking to me for when you have an appointment?" Jack just smiled. "Don't worry Mr. Walker, I'm not late or anything. I'm probably too early if anything. Besides, I enjoy being able to talk with you every once in a while." Mr. Walker relaxed and smiled sweetly. "Thank you Jack. It really means a lot to me to know that there still are a few descent folks in this area who don't mind being bored to death by an old guy like me. Say Jack? I don't mean to be nosy or nothin', but who's your friend? Do they live in these parts, because I'd be more than happy to give you a lift in my milk truck." "Well actually she does. Her name's Rose Dewitt Bukator." Mr. Walker's eyebrows raised in mix of different thoughts. "Do ya know her?" Mr. Walker was reluctant to speak and when he did, it came out as more of a stutter. "Well…a…sure I know the Dewitt Bukators. They're just down the road a bit. Want me to give you a ride?" "If it isn't out of your way or anything-" "No, not at all. Hop in!" Jack smiled and climbed up into the run down truck that always managed to deliver milk throughout the local neighborhoods of Philadelphia. "Gee thanks." "No problem son." Mr. Walker rubbed his chin as though he had a long beard growing there. "Ya know somethin' Jack, you're a real good kid. You're one of the only friends that I've got around here and I know that I'd get pretty worried for you if I thought you were getting into dangerous waters." Jack was confused. "Wh-what do you mean?" "Jack, don't get me wrong or nothin'. I'm not holding any grudges on the Dewitt Bukator family itself…just one of the Bukator women. Now, I don't know what kind of 'friendship' you've got with Miss Rose Dewitt Bukator, but I want to give you a warning before it's too late." They had reached the Dewitt Bukator home already. Mr. Walker parked the milk truck by the curb in front of the gate. He continued talking. "Jack, you're a bright boy. Don't let some crazy woman con you into something you're not willing to do." Jack was dumbfounded. "What are you talking about Mr. Walker?" "Rose's mother…Ruth Dewitt Bukator I believe is a real sneaky one I tell ya. You watch out for her Jack, she'll get ya."
