3 HOURS LATER:
Rose's eyes slowly flickered open. Jack was sitting by her side while a doctor was talking to a nurse on the other side of the room.
"Jack…"
"Rose! Hey doc, she's waking up!"
The doctor rushed over to her side and started examining her. "Well Mrs. Dawson, how are you feeling? How do feel? Any dizziness?"
"No, not really. What happened?"
"Well, you fainted about 3 hours ago. Can you tell me what you remember doing last?"
"Let's see now, I think I was sorting through the mail. Yeah, that's it. I came across this blank envelope, so I opened it to find out whom it was from. I started reading it and then everything went black."
"Ah well, Mrs. Dawson, it's quite understandable. Your husband found you with the letter. It could be a number of things to cause such a result. What was in the letter?"
"Well…I…I don't really remember to tell you the truth."
"At any rate, you look fine. I have to get going now. You get plenty of rest." He got up and walked to the front door then turned to Jack to say, "I would like to have your wife come in tomorrow for some tests. That way we can have a better understanding for the reason that all this happened."
"What do mean tests? I thought you said she was fine. What's wrong with her?"
"Oh, nothing Mr. Dawson. If my hypothesis is correct, I think that it will be quite the contrary. Nothing serious should be wrong with her at all." He waved his arm as if to dismiss any worries, "You just make sure she gets plenty to eat and plenty of rest, and make sure she comes in for that check up!" The doctor said as he went through the front door.
"I will. Thank you."
"My pleasure! Bye now!"
Jack made his way back to Rose. "You feelin' alright?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Just wonderin'. The doctor wants you to go to the hospital for some tests."
"Tests? Why? What's wrong with me?"
"He didn't tell me much, just said you needed to go in for some tests. I'm sure everything's fine. Rose, about that letter. I've read it a million times so far and I think we need to talk about it."
"Can I see it first? I didn't exactly get to finish reading it."
"Sure, just don't faint on me again." He said with a chuckle.
Rose read the letter over again. It read:
DEAR MISS DEWITT BUKATOR,
I KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE. ONE SHOULD BE MORE CAREFUL ABOUT TALKING OUT IN PUBLIC. I'VE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO FIND YOU AS MR. CALEDON HOCKLEY REQUESTED. HE DOESN'T KNOW OF YOUR SURVIVAL… YET. HE HAD HIS DOUBTS AT FIRST, ESPECIALLY AFTER FINDING A JACK AND ROSE DAWSON ON THE PASSENGER LIST. AS YOU KNOW, MR. HOCKLEY WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET HIS WAY. ANYTHING. IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD BE VERY CAREFUL. BY THE TIME THAT YOU READ THIS, I WILL HAVE ALREADY INFORMED HIM OF YOUR WHEREABOUTS. THE HOCKLEYS ARE A VERY POWERFUL FAMILY. MAY I ADVISE YOU TO DO NOTHING THAT YOU WILL REGRET LATER. ACCIDENTAL DEATHS OF LOVED ONES CAN BE ARRANGED.
SINCERELY,
MAX LOVEJOY
(DOES THIS LAST NAME RING A BELL? YES, LOVEJOY- WHERE HAVE YOU HEARD THAT NAME BEFORE? DON'T YOU REMEMBER? MR. HOCKLEY'S MANSERVANT! YES, SPENCER LOVEJOY WAS MY FATHER. I BLAME HIS DEATH ON YOU. I INDEED WORK FOR MR. HOCKLEY, SO LIKE I SAID, DON'T DO ANYTHING THAT YOU WILL REGRET LATER.)
"Oh God Jack! What are we going to do?" Rose said as tears flowed freely.
"I don't know. It'll be alright now, it'll be alright. Don't you worry about it Rose."
"How can I not?! What are we going to do? They know where we live! We have to leave! We just have to!"
"Where would we go?"
"I don't know. Where CAN we go?"
"I don't know. Just relax. Everything will be ok."
Jack gave Rose a kiss then lay his head on Rose's. He tried to think of what they were going to do. What could they do? They could move, but they would probably be followed. What COULD they do?!
