Chapter 4: Good news, or is it?
It had been nearly a year since John and Emily had first met. They became the best of friends. They shared some of their most inner thoughts with one another, trusting and knowing that the other one would understand. Sometimes a simple look or expression could tell the other exactly what they were thinking. They spent most of their time walking around Central Park or watching the ships come in down in New York's Harbor- just like they had on the first day of school. It didn't really matter what they were doing, they were together and that was all that mattered.
By the time the summer of 1933 rolled around, John and Emily had started to become more than just friends. They had developed a love so strong that it made many of their friend's joke at how inseparable they really were. They were like soul mates- destined to be with each other for life and beyond. They resembled Jack and Rose at the very age- so full of love and hope.
Emily never told her parents much about John and John never really told his parents much about Emily. Neither John nor Emily would even understand the impact of each others families and the connection between them, for Jack, Rose and Cal had never explained in much detail about what had happened on Titanic or the people on her. It was pure innocence.
By 1934, John had decided that it was finally time- time for him to summon enough courage to ask Emily to marry him. He finally did on May 3rd, 1934. Both Emily and John were ecstatic as both of them awaited summer break so they could go home with the wonderful news. Summer finally came, leaving a nervous yet happy John to take the quickest train to Philadelphia and Emily to take one to Santa Monica, California. Of course the reaction that both youngsters got from their parents was completely unexpected….
