"...the best science fiction movie since 2001" Yeah, until Star Wars came along. No matter. I absolutely LOVE this movie. I've watched it more times than I can count with both my feet and my hands. Why? It's pure '70s baby and its got the Farrah to prove it. The first time I watched this flick it was a "Movies for Guy Who Like Movies" night on TNT. I was totally in the mood for some super-cheesy '70s, end-of-the-world stories and around 2am they were finally delivered. Michael York, what a stud. He's so smooth. I wish I could go without a bra...not refering to Michael of course...just jumping subjects. All the undergarments on this set must have been burned before production began because...yikes. That poor woman had to run. Someone get Jessica a sports bra!
Special effects...an Oscar? Just how did the technology in this film jump to the technology in Star Wars? Maybe I'm just on crack the guns that set off sparklers and the brightly colored, blinking lights in Star Wars were just less cheesy. Maybe the Star Wars models were just harder to identify as models...unlike the "bubble-domed world." And what's up with the tin foil on Box? I love this movie and all of its "effects" but an Oscar for tin foil? Well, I guess thats the '70s for you.
Overall I give this movie my most hardiest seal of approval for both cheese and kick-ass, end-of-the-world, '70s vision-of-the-23rd Century plot...and Michael York of course. May he never have to wear a bra.
