Random thoughts from 20th Century Fox Mexico Theatrical's Marketing Director. | ||||||
Entry for February 14, 2008
Maybe it's sour grapes since I've just read it's going to be released through Warner Bros. and not Fox, but I'm not greatly excited about the release of a Clone Wars animated movie this year (or the series for that matter). If you don't know what I'm talking about, read the note at http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/va/20080212/120286058900.html And it's just that, for me, it's not very exciting to keep on going to the details of a story you already know the outcome of. The first trilogy is a classic, the second was interesting since Lucas' universe was getting re-invented and you just HAD to find out how Anakin went wrong. But now that you do, it's not so exciting to keep on treading on Clone Wars... not after the cool Cartoon Network animated series, where you've probably seen all you needed to see. If you've got new exciting adventures, why not go into new territory? How about the first years of the Empire, with Darth Vader already with his helmet on? Or the years after the fall of the Empire, showcasing the next adventures of Luke Skywalker and company? And to make things worse, it's digital animation. I just hate it at this point. And it's that the characters still just don't look good or alive. You keep thinking you are playing a video game. It doesn't matter how well they are animated, the characters feel strange. And that goes for films I've loved like The Polar Express, Van Helsing or I Am Legend. I would have loved to see Werewolves and Vampires for the later two done with make up, animatronics and SOME CGI (as they did for the first Jurassic Park), but as it turns out they went digital and they look, well... wrong. Remember the digitally animated SpiderMan cartoon? It just didn't hold, even though it was really flashy and cool. Anyway, let's see how it turns out before bad mouthing it more. And talking about bad mouthing... Aretha Franklin vs. Beyoncé... holy crap! I wrote down a few months ago that it was distressing to see how you couldn't say anything on the media nowadays without someone feeling offended... and now we have Aretha upset because Beyoncé said something nice about someone else... and it blows out of proportion... and everyone feels like crap because we love Tina... and Aretha too, even if she's senile... and of course Beyoncé because she's beautiful and sings and dances like an angel (that video with Shakira just blows my mind, having them both together is like an overload to my brain)... Will everyone chill down and let everyone else speak their minds without feeling offended? Damn! I hate how everyone is tip-toeing to avoid hurting someone, when the fun of it was telling off someone else (and for that someone to have enough sense of humor to shrug it off). As Dumbledore said, "there are dark times ahead, Harry"... or some such phrase meaning the same thing. Happy Valentine's, by the way! 2008-02-14 15:22:00 GMT
