LS/V-Tec Combo vs. GSR motor

my friend is almost done with his LS/V-Tec combo...i have heard that those are faster than GSR's(which he had before) o by the way his car is a 1996 integr gsr..and he is building it from nothing...like all different parts not just buying and engine like titanium pistons and all that...is this better than a GSR engine...i dont know much bout integs...thanks

Yeah...

Yeah, on paper it is, but whoever builds it can make it better/worse. The thing is, the stroke on the LS block is longer than the GS-R, this gives more dispalcement and more power, but the drawback is that the LS block isn't made for high RPM opperation-- becuase it isn't lubricated as much as a GS-R Block. I'm going through this process right now, and should have a much stronger motor than my old Built GS-R motor.

Tuan says 12.5 is the highest you can run on 92 octane..

Yeah, yeah yeah

Yeah, on stock ignition timing, I'll just dial the ignition back anyway, and we have a gas station out here that has 93.5 min octane rated gas, and I can always buy Octane boost in bulk. This motor is more or less a tie me over until I can build my B20B/Z Motor for turbo.

Thumbs down doh!!!

not to be rude but is your friend on crack? has he thought it thru?

you would have to be nuts to take out a perfectly good GSR engine and replace it with an LS block and then put on your GSR head to the LS block...all because you want an LS VTEC.

If you spent the money that was going to the LS block (which has a lower CR BTW) and labour to install everything PROPERLY (without coolant and oil leaks) into the GSR engine, you would make way more hp than doing the LS VTEC conversion.

Remember what an LS VTEC is: it is a way for LS nonVTEC owners to get VTEC inexpensively since a) GSR/ITR engines are expensive b) they are rare. If you already have it, do not do this!!!! Tell your friend to spend some money on good pistons and rods and blockwork , a good set of cams, and a JDM header for his GSR and he will spank any LSVTEC all motor (top out at around 175-180 whp all motor with LS rods and 185-187 whp with ITR pistons...ITR and GSR rods do not work on an LS crank BTW).

yeah, i already lectured AcuraBro about that -- hehe i already ordered a set of 12-1 CR pistons from ENDYN (for my b20 block) -- and that's the max that i'm willing to take it. custom pistons can handle such static compression compared to that of OEMs.

Yea yea

Yeah, I would have opted for the Endyn units, but again, I'm not the bottomless walleted wonder here. This engine, again, is a tie-me-over until I can build my 'real' engine (the outcome of this 1st one will determine how quickly I build the next one as well. I really want that JDM front end as well.

As far as LS Internals in a GS-R block, I don't know what you're smoking, but why would you do that? You could get a Crower stroker kit (for a 2.0L) instead for a little more, and get 2x he power from it.
