I had a good feeling going into this film. Unfortunately I left with the feeling of,
"What was that?!?!". It was a disappointment, that's what it was. I stupidly
confused having a good cast with having a good movie. I think the acting was fine and was
well rounded. With a cast like Martha Plimpton, Christina Ricci, and Jay Mohr just to name
a few, I assumed that this movie would be very good. NOT AT ALL. This movie was terrible.
The cast and their amazing acting is the only thing that makes this movie worth watching
at 2 in the morning. The writing is awful and there are only a few parts where you want to
chuckle. Most of these seemed to be centered around Martha Plimpton. I think this can be
chucked up to some superb acting and not at all to the writing. I thought the movie was
slow and pointless. By the way, in case any of you women are hoping to gawk at Ben
Affleck, don't bother. I don't think he has more than 5 minutes of screen time. Now, I
know it's not the in thing to say, so sue me. But I thought that the one person in the
cast who was lacking was Courtney Love. I thought she was annoying at times and the rest
of the time she seemed to be overacting. Her role in The People vs. Larry Flint was made
for her but I don't think this one was. She wasn't believable and she wasn't at all
likeable. All in all I'd say watch this for Casey Affleck (who turns in a fairly good
performance) and Martha Plimpton. That's about it. If you're hoping for some of the
nostalgic 80's stuff...watch Romy and Michele's High School Reunion or Grosse Pointe
Blank.
