Well, were approaching Oscar time and we've already reviewed quite a few of the big contenders and we couldn't leave this one out. Now, personally I don't think it was NEAR a good a film as Good Will Hunting, but it wasn't bad. The acting saved the movie, but still it wasn't MAGNIFICENT acting as the critics seem to be making it out to be. Jack Nicholson is as good as always but still nothing unexpected. The characters do have a lot of depth, so I must give snaps to the writers. Most current writers concentrate solely on the fact that there are special effects or big named actors in the film, i.e. Air Force One, and forget about the art of telling a good, in depth story. The characters in this movie are complex and represented well by a nicely rounded out cast. I'd recommend it. Good acting, good characters, the story is not very conventional though, which might throw you for a loop. Traditional plot formula, problems are presented...protagonist solves problems. Otherwise you would just have a lot of dialogue. That seems to be the case in this movie for a little while, it kind of drags for lack of the immediate, yet conforting feeling of knowing where the story is going. A love aspect is obvious but no movies leave it at just that. If you can get over that first hump, you'll be fine.
