I had wanted to see this for a long time but I never got around to it until it came out on rent. I must admit I'm kind of torn on this film. I thought that the acting jobs were quite good. I was very surprised how Mira Sorvino managed to escape the Romy and Michele's or Mighty Aphrodite-type roles. Val Kilmer also does a pretty believable job. What this movie relies on isn't it's uplifting story because in fact, it's kind of depressing. What is relies on is the chemistry between the two stars and the interesting story of Val Kilmer's sight. The chemistry is mediocre, so that certainly doesn't save the movie. However, this is an approach I've never seen: "He saw, then didn't, then did, then didn't." I found it incredibly interesting what it was like to see and be confused by proportions and depth perception. This movie IS depressing and the resolution is dragged out and then given a choppy ending so it leaves you feeling unsatisfied. However, it IS very interesting and the acting is pretty good. It's an ok movie to rent.
