I didn't really want to see this movie, for the same reason that it only got two and a half stars.  It was a touch too sappy for my taste.  I left the theater wanting to slice my wrists.  It's main problem is the same that What Dreams May Come had.  Too much of the movie is spent in angst and sorrow.  So what if there's a happy ending.  Doesn't save it.  You can't spend 75 percent of a movie in a dark, depressing setting and then have a 10 minute happy wrap up and expect the audience to leave with a good feeling.  For those of you who haven't seen the previews, it involves a woman whose husband has died in an airplane crash (Gwenyth).   Her husband was on the flight because he switched with another man (Ben Affleck).   After the crash he feels guilty and wants to make sure that the man's (Tony Goldwyn) family is ok.  Thus Ben meets Gwenyth.

As if the whole idea of a happy couple being broken apart by a chance thing such as switching a seat and then dying in a horrible way such as a plane crash wasn't enough, a subplot enters.  Out of guilt, Ben's character begins to drink heavily.  Woo hoo, there's something to lighten the load for the crowd.  Yes, I understand it's purpose.  The writers want to show how much the survivor's guilt is eating him up inside.  However, I thought too much time was spent on this subject and just helped to drag the movie along.

Also, too much crying going on.  So, with all that in mind, why did it get 2 and a half stars?  Look at the actors.  Gwenyth was wonderfully charming as usual.  Ben was good as well.  But I didn't like him as much as I expected too.  He seemed to be trying a tad too hard.  But not enough to hurt the movie really.  Tony Goldwyn, who plays Gwenyth's husband was very good.  You might remember him from Ghost as the bad guy.  I think he's fairly decent and I'd like to see him get more roles.  I want to know what he could do with lead roles.

Beyond that there's not much to say.  The movie drags at times, it's funny at times, all in all it's ok.  But I wouldn't recommend it unless you're in the mood for a sappy, weepy, crying movie.  Perfect for those "feel sorry for yourself" days.  I'd wait for rent.
