This new movie is just what appears to be. It's quirky, fun and sweet all at once. I will start by saying that it is definately a chick flick. I don't think most men will be able to truly understand a lot of the humor, or atleast not to the extent that the women will. For example, the underwear dilemma. For those of you who've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.

Alright, onto the part I am most picky about, performances. Renee Zellwegger did a very good job with the accent, surprisingly. She also pulled off the strange goofiness of Bridget, pretty hard to do. I always respect people who change their physical appearance drastically for movies, and she gained 20 pounds for this role. Although it's probably pretty easy to do, it's daring when trying to be a leading lady. Next cast member, Colin Firth. Of course I always associate him with either Darcy from Pride and Prejudice or Simon Westward from Circle of Friends, I love that he can change his demeanor in such a way that it sheds those old roles. He does a brilliant job in this movie. His portrayal is just what the movie needed in order to counter Hugh Grants character.

Speaking of Grant, absolutely fabulous, as usual. Far from his usual high class, well spoken gentlemen, this character is risque and raunchy at times. Drinks heavily and smokes a lot. And somehow, Hugh Grant pulls it off. All in all, I'd say the cast was magnificent.
Story wise, the movie sticks decently close to the book, which was a NY Times bestseller. I always like it when movies are true to the books they are adapted from. The movie doesn't drag too much and has multiple humorous scenes. However, it's downfall is that it's extremely predictable. From Hugh Grant's relationship with Colin Firth to the bunny outfit, etc. The film also has an ending that is just a little too perfect, if you know what I mean. It's just so cutesy, you'd like to vomit a bit.

Something a little strange that I'd like to comment on is the soundtrack. Bizzare enough, there are atleast two songs that I counted that are also in the Someone Like You soundtrack. Odd timing. Both movies have the songs "Someone Like You" and "Dreamsome". They're both great songs, but I bought the Someone Like You soundtrack and have already listened to it dozens of times. Strange choice, especially if they're going to try to compete with selling cd's.

Alright, that was a tangent. So, what do I sum up about this film? It's very laughable, well acted, kinda girly, predictable, but enjoyable.
